Things that just make sense in my witchy home

As a practicing witch for almost six years, I've picked up a few tips and tricks I use in everyday life to keep my home magical. I will include instructions to everything listed in this blog.

First is Moon Water.
Moon water is commonly collected by witches during the full and new moon cycles of every month to be used in cleansings, rituals and manifestations. It is believed by more than just witches that the moon phases carry different and special energy that can be harnessed through crystals, water and tools. I don't always collect moon water unless it's a special day or significant astrological event but when I do, I take my clear glass bottle or jar, fill it up with water and place it on a windowsill or on my porch. If I'm needing to conjure very specific energy I will either write my intentions or a sigil on a slip of paper and place the glass of water on top.

2. Sigils.
Sigils are symbols made with specific intentions. Often needed for spell, rituals or to carry energy these magic symbols can be written on anything, anywhere. I have some written on my front door for protection against negative energies from entering my home. There are a few different ways to create sigils, first is using an alphabet grid and the other is taking the main letters of your intention and layering them over each other.

3. Prayers in the shower
This is a personal favorite of mine and an easy way to clear the energy off your body at the end of a long day. Water has been commonly used for centuries by many religions and spiritual practices as an energy cleanser, so it made perfect sense for me to write prayers of cleansings and blessings in the shower. Where you write your prayer or sigil is entirely up to you, but I personally just write the prayer on the shower walls. I also keep a jar of salt for when I need a deep energy cleanse like after tarot sessions.

4. Growing herbs to cleanse the space with.
During the start of ones awakening, it's pretty common to reach for that bundle of white sage at your local metaphysical shop but there are so many ethically sourced types of sage and other plants that have more benefits. Since moving into our home last summer, we've started our own patches of lavender, mint, catnip and blue sage that can be harvested several times during the warm months and dried in beautiful bundles. Cleansing your space with home grown herbs leaves a truly satisfying feeling as the smoke billows into every corner.

5. Charms and windchimes.
Chimes are an easy way to keep negative energy clear by using sound to cleanse the space. Often times people will use sound bowls or bells to cleanse a space before rituals, prayers or meditation. Chimes kept by a front door or garden will keep negative energy away from your doors.

6. Mini Alters
For centuries altars or offering tables have been used by nearly every religion and spiritual practice to pay homage to Gods, Goddesses or ancestors. These offering tables can be huge and dramatic or small and simple, its different for everyone. Closeted witches may keep a shoebox in their closet full of special trinkets, candies and drawings made for a goddess they are devoted to. More experienced practitioners may have several altars set up all over their house. Most alters have items or trinkets that represent every element, a statue, drawing or picture of who the alter is for, an offering - this can be anything you feel drawn to share such as toys, perfume, candy, or drinks, a blade used to carve candles, a tool of divination used to communicate, These are just some examples but it's really up to the witch to choose what works best for them.
