What does one do without a mothers love? A poem

What does one do without a mothers love?
Does she look under rocks?
Does she hide in a box?
Does she prance around town looking in places for faces that feel safe and familiar?
Does she sit down and cry,
When she sees a mother warmly holding her kin near?
Does she pray to the night sky, maybe the moon will lend an ear?
Maybe she sits in the meadow and listens to bird songs?
Maybe she journals away
Or drinks until her hearts gone?
Maybe she jumps into the arms of a stranger,
Screaming take me home, I won’t take no for an answer?
Maybe she looks for danger?
Seeks attention in ways that would take the hair off your chest?
Maybe she mourns who she could have been?
Without a mothers love she may go seeking,
Just to find the thing she’s been missing,
For none can replace what should feel like home,
She fears she will walk through life always alone,
Maybe she finds a lover who loves her gently,
But even then most days she’s empty,
She brought in a child of her own,
She cries at how easy it is to love her babe,
Not understanding why she had to fight for affection,
She knows it effects the way she mothers her babe,
She still cries nearly everyday
For what does one do without a mothers love?
You spend your whole life searching and it’s never enough.
