By now most of you know that I have two daughters Paige and Emma. There is a five-year age gap between my littles, but it doesn't stop us from enjoying many adventurous days out together. This is how I plan a day out and about.
Before I get into what we pack for a usual day out I need to say that I plan most of our activities well in advance during our Sunday Home Reset. ( https://thewitchandherkittens.blogspot.com/2023/06/weekly-home-reset.html ) This way we have an actual plan, and our bags are packed accordingly. For example, last week we planned a zoo day and afterwards hit up our local library for some nice calm down time. Had I not packed and planned accordingly our entire day could've turned into a mess.
First, it's all about the diaper bag, and no, neither of my girls are still in diapers but disaster can still strike at any time from something like spilling ketchup on a white shirt to wind tossed hair that looks a mess just from walking to the car. I try to best prepare us for any and all scenarios that can come our way. In our diaper bag I pack:
1. Hairbrush
2. extra hair ties
3. perfume
4. bottles of water
5. snacks (see https://thewitchandherkittens.blogspot.com/2023/06/whats-in-my-snack-jar.html )
6. Sunscreen
7. Extra undies
8. Jackets on weather confused days
Now I'm sure some of you are thinking, "Why can't they pack their own bags?" and the thing is, they do. But it's my job as the parent to pack the essentials for leaving the house. It's my job to keep us prepared in the event something goes wrong. I only require them to pack their purses or backpacks full of items to keep them occupied during wait times for events, long car rides or if maybe they aren't enjoying the errands we had to run. This gives them a sense of responsibility without the consequences of forgetting important items.
Here's what my daughters pack in their bags.
Paige (9)
1. Book
2. Journal to doodle or write
3. Tablet
4. Stuffed animal
Emma (4)
1. Book
2. Coloring book with crayons
3. Tablet
4. Stuffed animal
5. Fidget toy
As you can see, they pack very similar items, but this is just a tried-and-true method that has worked for our family. Your child may need more or less than mine do and that's perfectly okay.
Wishing you well,
Sophie
